The context

Hellas Verona FC is the football club that has represented the city of Verona since 1903. The team plays at the Marcantonio Bentegodi stadium, among the first in Europe to install renewable energy systems and high-technology solutions. For years the club has pursued a digital transformation focused on making data useful, modernising its facilities and improving the experience of supporters, media and stakeholders.

Operating across several sites, between the Bentegodi stadium, the club's head offices and the training centre at Peschiera del Garda, Hellas Verona needed a solid, reliable and scalable data infrastructure. At first the need was mainly connectivity during major sporting events, but over time it grew to cover day-to-day operations, pitch-side technology, the live experience, brand reputation monitoring and data analysis. The club was looking for a partner able not only to supply technology but to guide its innovation over the long term.

The project

Maxfone designed and built a network infrastructure covering every strategic area of the club. At the Bentegodi a fourth ring was created, made up of more than 2 km of optical fibre and a wireless network with very high speed and connection density: coverage reaches the stands, press room, hospitality areas, sponsor zones, dressing room tunnel, external ticket offices and youth areas.

Work continued at the Peschiera training centre, with internet coverage, and in the offices and warehouses of the head office, with an internal LAN, Wi-Fi and networking services. To guarantee stability in all conditions, backup radio links were installed as well.

The results

Hellas's facilities have become multi-purpose digital hubs. A high-performance network made it possible to adopt advanced IoT solutions, including GLT (Goal Line Technology), which made the club the first FIFA affiliate to implement it. The same technological base carries VAR (Video Assistant Referee), the access control systems, remote video surveillance and the tools for managing media accreditation. In parallel, Maxfone supported the club on communication too, with the in-stadium live experience and the monitoring of online reputation and the social ecosystem.

What comes next

The collaboration with Hellas Verona, which began more than ten years ago, is now a consultancy partnership built on trust and shared objectives. The know-how of Maxfone's engineers and innovation managers supports the club in developing new digital solutions, with particular attention to the Internet of Things and to engagement tools for supporters and stakeholders, inside and outside the stadium.

Italo Zanzi
"Working with Maxfone is far more than a technology project for us: it is a relationship of trust built over time and on shared goals. Together we have turned innovation into real value for the Club, for the team and for all our yellow and blue supporters."
Italo Zanzi, Executive President
