The context

Marini Marmi is an Italian company specialising in the extraction, processing and sale of marble and natural stone. Founded in 1897, it holds a long tradition and a body of knowledge that let it offer high-quality solutions for any project, and it owns the world's only quarry of Ceppo di Gré and Nuvolato di Gré.

Its production process rests on two key factors: skilled labour and modern technology. On the second front, the company needed better control and management of its latest-generation machinery, to raise both efficiency and product quality. The analysis tool in use, although technologically advanced, was a traditional one: it did not include the capabilities made possible by artificial intelligence, and it allowed neither a complete reading of the data nor real-time monitoring of operations.

The project

Maxfone implemented IDA to collect and analyse the data coming from the machines and sensors in the production process. Marini Marmi replaced traditional files, spreadsheets, with proper datasets that can be used for more advanced analysis.

IDA made it possible to integrate data from different sources and to see the state of the production processes in real time, not only on site but also remotely, through custom API configuration.

The results

Production efficiency improved and the waiting and response times in the event of machine faults or slowdowns came down. IDA accelerated Transition 4.0, opening access to the tax credit, and proved useful in European projects too, such as Life ZSW (Zero Stone Waste), focused on recycling stone waste: partners access the data independently, remotely and securely, improving collaboration and information sharing.

What comes next

IDA is an open application that evolves to follow the needs of Marini Marmi and its customers. The company can assess new capabilities to improve data analysis and optimise a production process built on raw materials with characteristics unique in the world, continuing to innovate and stay competitive in the marble market along the path of the 5.0 transition.
