Natural stone
A single dashboard for the machines, workstations and IoT sensors of the Stone District: consumption per square metre and per material cut, supporting strategic decisions.

Connected manufacturers in Natural stone
For more than 50 years Marmi Corradini Group has been one of the leading companies in natural stone processing and in the production of slabs, tiles and finished pieces. Based in Verona's Stone District, it stands out for the quality standards of its products, achieved through continuous technological innovation in both process and product. It has been a certified sustainable business since 2020.
Aiming to optimise efficiency, cut energy costs and maintain high quality standards, Corradini Group turned to corporate sustainability assessment technologies and production cycle monitoring. In IDA it found the way to centralise the key information from its production plants in a single dashboard: individual machines, complex workstations, sensors and IoT devices. Analysis that supports management and operations in real time on decisions about sustainability, energy consumption and cost reduction.
The application constantly acquires all process data from machines and sensors: energy, water and abrasive consumption, number of slabs processed, square metres produced, cubic metres of water used. Energy Meters were installed to monitor the most energy-hungry machines, along with Festo sensors to follow compressed air consumption and spot any drift in operation. The dashboard shows energy consumption per square metre and per material cut, with everything that weighs on production costs available in real time. IDA also brings analysis automation components, the self-check engine, dashboard synchronisation and the release of periodic reports.
The benefits are of two kinds: sector-specific and quality control. The infrastructure meets Industry 4.0 requirements, including historical records of processing, predictive maintenance management and bidirectional data. Alongside that, the company gained full control over individual machines, with notifications and alarms, and a precise view of the whole production cycle, energy consumption included. Analysis times, previously very long, dropped to a few hours.
In line with 4.0 and 5.0 compliance, the solution scales and opens the way to installing new IoT sensors to monitor water, electricity, compressed air and CO₂, strengthening the validity of sustainability certifications. The direction is making data the company already holds progressively more usable, interpreting it simply and quickly, and reaching the monitoring of CO₂eq emissions under Scope 2 and Scope 3.
This project is the Maxfone-authored case study published on page 33 of the RSEview monograph Digitalizzazione e ottimizzazione delle risorse: casi studio, by RSE S.p.A. - Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico, GSE group, 2023.

"By integrating this artificial intelligence technology into our processes we have been able to make full use of the data on production parameters and on the management of orders and jobs. What is more, analysis used to take a very long time and has now been cut to a few hours, allowing faster and more precise control of production costs, better handling of critical issues and of maintenance, as well as lower machine downtime and energy costs."
