The context

S.I.Ver specialises in sheet metal fabrication. Based in San Pietro di Legnago, in the province of Verona, it produces laser-cut or punched, bent, welded and assembled components to the customer's drawing, on highly automated lines. Extensively digitised processes let the company ship across Italy and abroad with short, reliable lead times. S.I.Ver holds a high commercial reliability rating and an integrated management system certified for quality, safety, environment and corporate sustainability.

To keep productivity and efficiency standards high, the company needed a system able to monitor energy and compressed air consumption in real time on the machines used for laser cutting, punching, bending and welding sheet metal. The goal was twofold: find room for improvement on the electrical system and catch compressed air leaks, to act concretely on cost reduction.

The project

Maxfone installed more than 20 Energy Meter sensors, split into two groups with different purposes. The first monitors machine consumption across the whole day, so that draw during idle phases is visible too. The second measures compressed air. Data collection and consumption monitoring happen in real time through the IDA application which, besides analysing and comparing data, sends notifications and alarms when technical problems or possible compressor faults appear.

The results

S.I.Ver now reads the consumption of each individual machine. That means a clear view of their real performance and a precise check on compressor running and idle periods. The full picture IDA provides widens the room for action on the efficiency and fine-tuning of production machinery. Predictive analysis also makes it possible to act on maintenance in time, containing faults and cutting repair costs and downtime.

What comes next

With consumption monitoring and preventive maintenance in place, the company will be able to weigh more effective options against how its machines actually perform: acting directly on efficiency or, in extreme cases, investing deliberately in replacement. Strengthening sustainability certifications in the coming years remains a priority too, particularly those tied to CO₂eq emissions.

Stefano Merlin
"With a highly varied and complex machine fleet, we had already invested heavily in Industry 4.0 with native solutions from various manufacturers, but Maxfone, with great expertise and professionalism, gave us a solution to monitor our entire fleet of machines and systems centrally and to make informed, data-driven decisions about their performance."
Stefano Merlin, Owner of S.i.Ver
