Monitoring of water, compressed air and utilities, plus a digital planner that replaces paper: process digitalisation at a centre of excellence in Verona electronics.

Founded in Verona in 1983, STM Products is an Italian centre of excellence in the design of custom electronics. For over forty years the company has managed the entire production cycle, from research to in-house testing, serving industrial bakery equipment and complex sectors such as rail and marine; ISO 9001 certified, it exports more than 50% of its production to 60 countries. The challenge was to turn machinery into intelligent, interconnected systems in line with Industry 4.0: introducing objective monitoring of water and energy consumption, digitalising internal processes to eliminate paper-based management and improve the tracking of job times and costs, and offering advanced after-sales services with remote monitoring.
STM Products chose Maxfone's IDA application, turning the machines' electrical signals into intuitive dashboards. Installing sensors for water, compressed air and utilities control digitalised the energy consumption infrastructure. In parallel, to meet the need for internal traceability, a new digital planner was designed to replace paper for good and to monitor workflows, materials used and the progress of individual operations in real time.
STM Products centralised data collection to cut water and air waste, promoting more sustainable company management. With the second phase of work on order digitalisation, the company obtained energy costing for each individual job, a key tool for identifying loss-making stages and optimising profitability. Analysing historical data through IDA also makes it possible to catch anomalies and prevent machine downtime in real time, reducing support costs.
The roadmap includes the final release of the job management system to track operators, times and rejects, extending monitoring to OEE analysis for each individual workstation, and studying constant consumption during non-working periods for further energy optimisation.
