The context

Founded in 1958 by Remigio Lucchini, ICI Powering Evolution exports efficient, sustainable thermal solutions worldwide: burners, industrial boilers and commercial thermal systems designed to measure for SMEs and large enterprises, across sectors from chemicals and pharmaceuticals to food and beverage.

The company's outlook led it to rethink its business model, moving from selling products to a servitisation strategy. The shift turns the product, in this case the boiler, into a continuous service where steam generation becomes the central element. The goal is a tailored service that optimises customer efficiency, improves production cycles and cuts the cost of running the machines: ICI no longer sells only a physical product, but a bespoke solution that builds a closer, longer-lasting relationship.

The project

With IDA Industry the application plays a dual role. On one side it lets ICI collect, analyse and monitor all of its customers' connected machinery through a single operations control centre. On the other it lets those customers independently monitor each machine used in their own production processes, optimising operations and improving production efficiency.

The results

Commercialising this service is the heart of ICI's servitisation. Remote machine control lets the company offer predictive maintenance and tailored support packages, improving efficiency and reducing on-site intervention, while the centralised dashboard surfaces alarms and anomalies in real time. It is also a strategic opportunity: recurring business models that build customer loyalty and secure a stable revenue stream, while continuous data analysis lets ICI keep improving its products and services.

What comes next

In line with the digital energy transition, ICI aims to widen its offering with new machinery monitoring services and by monetising reporting. The goal is to turn steam generation into a utility rather than a product, improving service quality and efficiency, and to consolidate an increasingly service-oriented business model.

Alberto Zerbinato
"Our solutions are often the energy heart of the companies that use them, which is why keeping a continuous connection is essential, so the performance expected of us is always guaranteed. We live in an age where emissions and consumption must be kept to a minimum, for economic as much as environmental sustainability. Maxfone is our partner in managing the data generated and integrating it to support this further development of ICI's solutions."
Alberto Zerbinato, CEO
