Cold rooms, energy control and material flow traceability were working in separate silos: IDA orchestrates them in a single dashboard, starting from the pilot site in Buttapietra.

Bombieri S.p.A. is a benchmark in the production of high-quality cooked hams and traditional cured meats. With three plants in the province of Verona, at Buttapietra, Concamarise and Isola della Scala, the company handles the final part of the meat processing cycle: curing, cooking and packaging. Today it looks to technology as a strategic lever for the challenges facing the food industry.
How much energy does it take to produce 1 kg of meat? What is the carbon footprint of each pack? Simple questions, hard to answer without an integrated data infrastructure. The challenge was technological fragmentation: the plants ran separate systems, one for cold room monitoring, one for energy control and one for tracing incoming and outgoing material flows. Each worked in a silo, with no interoperability between them or with the ERP. Bombieri was looking for a solution able to bring the information together and enable cross-analysis.
The collaboration between Bombieri and Maxfone, with CM Tecnologie S.r.l. developing the project, started from the Buttapietra plant, chosen as the pilot site. It is one of the company's most digitally advanced plants, with a mixed set of 4.0 machinery and legacy systems, and sensors distributed along the cold chain and at critical processing points. Thanks to IDA's flexible, modular architecture, Maxfone made technologies of different generations talk to each other, including closed systems never designed to communicate outward. IDA acts as a unified data orchestration layer and also centralises flows coming from third-party software into a single control dashboard.
A patchwork of isolated systems became a unified control system. Indicators previously out of reach appeared, such as energy consumption per kilogram of product and CO₂ equivalent emissions per production line. That data is now available at a high level of granularity, and so becomes a strategic asset for operational planning. The second benefit concerns IT efficiency and licence costs: with IDA, Bombieri can replace three vertical applications with a single centralised tool. Less complexity, lower cost, more value.
The company has set out a roadmap to strengthen production process control and increase data precision. Next steps include installing line-specific energy sensors, moving beyond today's plant-level aggregate view towards monitoring by individual process. Integrating weighing and packaging logic will also make it possible to track outgoing quantities precisely and reconstruct the journey of each batch. IDA can then extend to the other production sites.

"In a technology landscape that never stops evolving, the challenge remains open: only an integrated, global analysis of the entire production system can deliver fast, effective and sustainable answers to the demands of the future."
