The context

The company works in animal nutrition and health, developing veterinary medicines, premixes and feed additives for several categories of animal. In manufacturing chemical products it pays close attention to safety at every stage of the process, from formulation through to administration, and maintains a structural commitment to environmental sustainability.

How long do the machines take to produce a single item? That question was the starting point for a need for clear, precise information on times and costs along the whole production process, and the interest extended to every department involved: from measuring mixer running time through to calculating the quantities leaving the packaging department.

The project

Maxfone implemented IDA with three-way control over the production processes: by total output, by individual item produced and by plant. The application interconnected the existing databases, so production data could be viewed, compared, extracted and classified simply, immediately and actionably, and it supported Transition 4.0 certification in line with the applicable regulations.

The results

With IDA's data analysis the company can assess how to make its production processes more efficient in a sustainable way, a step towards the 5.0 transition that combines the digital dimension with accountability in energy measurement. In practice, the application supports reading and interpreting the data gathered by monitoring the production of the mixes and additives used to prepare feed and antibiotics for the animal sector.

What comes next

The next step is monitoring environmental production parameters, for a clear view of the energy consumption of every single job. Further sensors will measure parameters such as water and compressed air, cutting production costs, and will make it possible to spot any losses and define the corrective actions to remove or reduce them.
